COVID-19 UPDATE FROM HUDSON VALLEY LYOMAC
Serving the Pharmaceutical Industry
As the Coronavirus pandemic continues to dominate the news, it’s important to note that Hudson Valley Lyomac, a leading lyophilization and freeze-drying firm based in the United States, is continuing to provide equipment and services to the ever-more-important pharmaceutical industry.
With international supply chains severely affected by the pandemic, we build and ship a variety of standard and custom-built lyophilization units from our US-based plant in New York’s Hudson Valley. We have years of experience supplying the pharmaceutical industry with custom freeze-drying products and services. Whether your project is experimental or supplying medicines already used to fight the pandemic, you can turn to HV Lyomac for a custom, thoroughly up-to-date freeze-drying solution. Freeze drying stabilizes medicines and enables the industrial production of powders for tableting or encapsulating. Our pharmaceutical customers use freeze-drying to create products with long shelf life such as vaccines or other medicines for injections. COVID-19 only increases the demand for lyophilization products, and we are ready to supply units via purchase, lease or rental. These days, lives may be on the line as you work on new formulations to help fight infection. At Lyomac, we are redoubling our efforts to deliver top quality and consistency while keeping in mind abbreviated processing schedules and providing greater lyophilization volume per unit. |

Why Lyophilization?
Freeze-drying (lyophilization) is a process that simultaneously removes water from a substance, and lowers its temperature drastically. By combining vacuum technologies with rapid freezing, this process finds itself deployed in the manufacture of biologicals, chemistry, and therapeutics among others.
COVID-19 is a respiratory illness for which currently there is no vaccine or cure. But Lyophilization helps pharmaceutical companies build and test treatment modules rapidly—offering a better chance of locating an effective treatment sooner. Freeze-drying these new formulations can greatly increase shelf-life and overall stability—even where the formulation is liquid.
Finding an effective treatment for COVID-19 is a global effort of paramount importance, and lyophilization is key to the formulation of many different possible treatments. At Hudson Valley Lyomac, we are proud to be delivering top-quality, robust, configurable lyophilization units right here in the US.

COVID-19 and Lyophilization
Evolving diseases require us to seek innovations that will defeat them even as they adapt. This was the case for SARS and Zika viruses, and it’s true for Coronavirus as well. As the world races to find treatments for COVID-19, lyophilization, or freeze-drying, plays a key role to play in developing pharmaceutical compounds that are both uniform and reliable.
One of the key challenges for manufacturers is the speed at which they can develop and test new formulations. Traditional methods are too slow—allowing epidemics to spread. What’s needed are tools to help produce and cycle through molecular variants in an organized and rapid manner.
To that end, a number of tests are being done with lyophilized formulations. Hudson Valley Lyomac provides lyophilization units for every testing scenario; and it is not unlikely that the newest treatments for COVID-19 will be lyophilized drugs.

Freeze-Drying Challenges
Our lyophilization units are designed to defeat some of the tougher challenges posed by freeze-drying—and with the world racing for COVID-19 treatments, this becomes more important than ever. For instance, we pay careful attention to uniformity of shelf-surface temperatures, resistance of the refrigeration systems and the condenser itself. We evaluate hot and cold areas within the freezer and normalize them to the greatest degree possible with today’s technology. Steady state temperatures, uniformity of both temperature and moisture-removal—these are key features of all our products. All of them are built carefully and by hand in our US factory. We take Covid-19 as seriously as our pharmaceutical clients do.
Why You Should Choose Hudson Valley Lyomac
Hudson Valley Lyomac has been in business for over 40 years. We have counted healthcare companies among our client base since the beginning. Even in a highly specialized space; and even with large amounts of off-shore competition, Hudson Valley Lyomac has managed to expand steadily—serving over 100 different customers with a wide range of lyophilization requirements. Today we service government contractors, pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms and food processors. With the advent of the global pandemic associated with the Coronavirus, we are redoubling our efforts to serve critical industries in the pharmaceutical space. Our goal is to provide the best, most customizable and most reliable freeze-dry products available in the market today. Get in touch today—we are eager to find a solution for your specialized need (even if it is not COVID-19-related).
